Serendipty And Me

Serendipity
Serendipity plays a part in my work; I was recently listening to an NPR program where the show's host classified serendipity as an accident. I think that it is far from that, serendipity is the result of exploring, it is discovery.
For me it is what happens when that one thing that leads to another thing. This is not an accident but an unseen connection.
The water in the river runs over and around the stones, it
takes away the sand underneath and that causes the stones to move. The idea
runs in one direction causing the clay to move in that direction my hand works
it causing it to move in another, that original thought is changed like the
sand gone from underneath.
Serendipity is a part of what I do; I allow the unexpected show up. Push the clay to a point to where what is inside of me and what is inside the clay can come out together, it is a dance and it is at its best when you are working together.
Exploring is very important for me know. I am in a point in my clay career, with my position at the Kalamazoo Institute of Art and my clay skills, where I can work without the restriction of being worried about materials and time.
Serendipity works right beside me now and I am grateful for that.
